As one of the most recognizable and iconic modern art movements, Pop Art was a raucous contradiction to the minimalism of the fine art styles of yesteryear.
Pop art abstracts were a natural continuation of the appeal of this genre, as they combined the bold, riotous iconography of pop art with the freedom and creativity of abstracts. This may be a surprising collaboration, given that abstract art is traditionally viewed as non-objective art, but it meant that pop art subjects were painted in a way they had never been seen before. And the options were endless; pop art traditionally focused on highlighting elements of mass and popular culture, including celebrities, products and objects.
The abstract form of these pieces meant that artists were able to create unique, subjective pieces which depicted familiar elements with as much eccentricity and outlandish creativity as they liked. To fans of the pop art movement, this was an added bonus, as it was a clear departure from the boundaries of traditional art.
Pop art abstracts make use of garish colors and bold, striking motifs to create truly eye-catching pieces.
